Alliance's Solids Control Division provides High Performance Centrifuges and Services in Western Canada. The centrifuges we provide are Hutchison Hayes Model 5500’s which are a Mid/Large size centrifuge capable of producing High G Force, High Feed Rates and flexible either as a solids removal unit or barite recovery centrifuge. They are compact enough to be easily moved with a standard oilfield picker and can be powered with a normal rig light plant with no modifications.

Hutchison Hayes 5500

Capacity:

The HH 5500 has a Stainless Steel Rotating Assembly which is 16” diameter by 55” long with a 10 degree taper on the conical end. With the variable speed drives the 5500 can be operated at any speed from 1600 rpm up to 3700 rpm producing in excess of 3100 G Force. These units are rated to process 1 m3 of unweighted drilling fluids. The main drive motor is a 60 Horsepower Variable Speed electric motor while the back drive is equipped with a 20 Horsepower Variable Speed motor. The large main drive motor is required in order to achieve high “G”s when rotating at up to 3700 RPM without drastically sacrificing feed volume. The larger than normal back drive motor is needed for high torque applications like barite recovery mode or when the differential is slowed down for dryer discard in Oil Base Mud jobs. A 20 horsepower Variable Speed pump will deliver the high volume required in some applications as well as the high density mud encountered when stripping weighted OBM.

All Alliance Centrifuges are Fully Variable Speed controlled units. The controls for all three motors have built in intelligence that is set by the Field Engineer. For example the operator will maximize the solids removal while on location matching the bowl speed, conveyor speed and pump speed until the unit is performing at its best. Then he can program the drives to monitor the torque and automatically control the feed rate based on the preset torque limits. When the drilling conditions change and the centrifuge is seeing more solids the torque will increase. When the drive senses the increase torque it automatically slows the pump down and then when the torque decreases it brings the pump back to the preset speed. This allows us to set the unit much closer to its maximum capacity without worrying that it will plug up and go down causing costly down time and service calls. We continually monitor and display Main Drive Speed and Torque, Back Drive Torque and Differential RPM, and Feed Pump Speed and Torque. Adjustments can be made either by the rig hands or by an Alliance Service Hand simply by adjusting the three dials.

Safety:

The HH 5500 units have all the safety features available including vibration shut down, overload shut downs, stop/start stations at the control panel and at the centrifuge for both the centrifuge and the pump. In addition one of the big safety problems with the majority of the centrifuge stands available is the telescoping ladder used for access to the platform. As you know it is often difficult to climb up this ladder with hoses or tools, open the trap door at the top and access the centrifuges. Often once the operator or rig hand is up on the centrifuge stand the trap door is left open and is a major fall hazard. Alliance has addressed this hazard and has designed a telescoping set of external stairs for all our stands which will give much safer and more convenient access. We will still have the ladder on the opposite end as an alternative escape in the case of emergency. The proper stairs will not only increase the safety but will also make it much easier for the rig hands to access the centrifuges and as a result they will be more inclined to make the small adjustments necessary to maintain peak performance.

Service:

All the best equipment available is only as good as the people who are operating it. We are driven to be a customer oriented service provider that is focused and committed to providing the best service in our field. Alliance currently has experienced field service technicians located in Calgary, Caroline, Edson and Valleyview to provide prompt service throughout Alberta and BC. We also have a staff of qualified consultants available for specific jobs that require sit-in service. We provide a minimum of twice weekly service checks and 24 hour call out at no cost to our customers to ensure the equipment is performing up to your expectations.
